Schools are at ground zero of environmental health issues due to the presence of sensitive receptors (students), and are often the first regulated entities on environmental issues in buildings and are a frequent subject of media coverage. When an indoor environment quality (IEQ) concern occurs, there is always a potential for a chain of escalation that can occurs with teachers/staff, students and parents, that takes them to a place of outrage about the situation. Understanding how this occurs and the actions we can take to move occupants from outrage to a place where they are aligned with a resolution process is key to solving any IEQ issue. This presentation will discuss the common IEQ issues, assessment strategies, and resolution strategies.
